Picture shows 'great white shark' metres away from boys Swimming And They Do Not Have An Idea That The Beast Is Approaching Them

These two young boys got the shock of their lives when what looks to be a shark appeared while they were surfing off a popular beach.

June Emerson took the picture of her 12-year-old son Quinn and a friend while they were enjoying the surf off California's Manhattan Beach, US.

The photo shows the pair watching a towering wave behind them, while a dark shadow looms just metres away.

Ms Emerson reportedly didn't notice the beast until her and the two boys were back in the car.

She uploaded it to Facebook shortly after and it quickly went viral, as people speculated over what it could be.

She told KTLA: “It was quite a shock to see."
