Liam Neeson is an actor from Ireland who has made appearances in several blockbusters, including Schindler’s List, Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace, Batman Begins andDarkman. He has also been recognized several times for his acting prowess, earning nominations from the Academy Awards, BAFTA and the Golden Globes three times. He has continued earning his millions through high return movies like Taken and The Grey.
9. DENZEL WASHINGTON – $33 MILLION
Denzel Washington has gotten praise for his acting ever since the late 80′s. He won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1989 for Glory and for Best Actor in 2001 forTraining Day. He has also received two Golden Globe Awards and a Tony Award. He has also gotten four other Academy Award nominations, including for the movie Flight in which he sacrificed a portion of his salary in favor of a percentage of the profits. The low budget movie made a killing in the box office, thus allowing Washington to take it all the way to the bank.
8. TOM CRUISE – $35 MILLION
Tom Cruise has been a fan favorite since the 80′s. He first appeared in movies like Taps andThe Outsiders, before hitting it big with movies like Top Gun, Rain Man, The Color of Money,Born on the Fourth of July and the Mission: Impossible series. He was also praised for his performances in Magnolia and The Last Samurai. Though he is not that bankable anymore when compared to previous years, Cruise showed his mettle with the movie Jack Reacher. The film did tepid business in the United States, but it grossed almost $200 million in the rest of the world.
7. ADAM SANDLER – $37 MILLION
Adam Sandler made his mark with movies like Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy,Big Daddy and Mr. Deeds. He also has his own film and television production company called Happy Madison Productions. In recent years, his performance in the box office has been mixed. While That’s My Boy and Jack and Jill did not do very well in the tills, Grown Ups turned out to be the second highest grossing film of his career. The highest was the animated movie Hotel Transylvania.
6. LEONARDO DICAPRIO – $39 MILLION
Leonardo DiCaprio actually started out in TV series like Santa Barbara and Growing Pains. He then appeared in the film called Critters 3 in 1991. He followed it up with several acclaimed performances in movies like This Boy’s Life, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?, Marvin’s Room, The Basketball Diaries and Romeo + Juliet. He became a true superstar in 1997 when he appeared in Titanic. He was also in critical films like Catch Me If You Can, Gangs of New York, The Aviator, Blood Diamond, The Departed, Revolutionary Road, Django Unchained, Shutter Islandand Inception. In 2013, he appeared in The Great Gatsby that earned more than $250 million in the box office.
5. DWAYNE JOHNSON – $46 MILLION
Dwayne Johnson once went by the nickname of “The Rock” when he was still involved in professional wrestling entertainment. After a successful transition into the movies through the film The Mummy Returns, producers immediately spun it off with The Scorpion King in which Johnson appeared in the title role. He was later included in The Fast and the Furious franchise, with the sixth installment of the movie grossing half a billion dollars in less than a couple of weeks of showing. He is also part of the GI Joe series.
4. MARK WAHLBERG – $52 MILLION
Mark Wahlberg has found success regardless of the field he endeavors in. He started out as a singer with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch that had a hit in the early 90′s. He had roles in hit movies like Boogie Nights, Three Kings, Planet of the Apes, The Italian Job, I Heart Huckabees,The Departed, The Other Guys and The Fighter. He is also a successful producer behind the hit shows Entourage and Boardwalk Empire. He earned a bundle from the comedy Ted that grossed more than half a billion dollars worldwide. He will also be part of the nextTransformers movie.
3. HUGH JACKMAN – $55 MILLION
Hugh Jackman is a multi talented actor who can also sing, dance and host award shows. He was also part of movies like Van Helsing and Real Steel. He has shown his range and versatility the past few years with his role as Wolverine that is part of the X-Men franchise, even as he sang in his dramatic turn as Jean Valjean in the film Les Miserables. The $61 million movie earned $438 million worldwide.
2. CHANNING TATUM – $60 MILLION
Channing Tatum is considered as one of the hottest actors around but he has also proven to be an astute businessman. He helped finance the movie Magic Mike that is partly based on his past as a stripper. From a budget of only $7 million, the hit movie helped Tatum bring home the bacon. He’s not through yet, as he is turning it into a complete franchise with a stage version, a sequel and even a bar in Louisiana.
1. ROBERT DOWNEY JR. – $75 MILLION
Robert Downey Jr. has always been one of the most talented actors around. He was part of the Brat Pack group back in the 80′s that appeared in movies like Less than Zero and Weird Science. By 1992, he was already receiving nominations for his performance, specifically for his lead role in Chaplin. He then suffered a decline after a series of drug charges, though he still managed to gain recognition for his performance in the hit TV show Ally McBeal.
